Flirting and Homecoming Cartoons

For the last day of Cat Adoption month, we describe our own adoptions! In the pictures below, I explain how brazen flirtation + pleadings resulted in a great adoption!
- Peaches the Cat

This is the very first pic of me on Petfinder...taken by a talented photographer named Tara at Marys Kitty Korner.. My human fell in love with me instantly. I have to confess...I WAS flirting with the Petfinder photographer!

This pretty white Connecticut house, Marys Kitty Korner,  was our temporary home after our narrow escape from the NYACC Kill shelter in NYC.  We lucked out!

I stationed myself in the sunniest window in the house near

the entrance so I could take sunbaths AND monitor visitors!

I made sure I was noticed by various "purr-formances" I gave

This is my sis-fur Paprika in the next room , always with the "woe is me" countenance.  I'm not too fond of this approach. Luckily she has ME to entice all the visitors!

Admittedly, we were both lucky to end up in these temporary digs...they even have a sun & playroom for us cats!

Finally it is time for an all out PLEA!

A few last "moves" may be the clincher!

The "Pitch"!

Finally the time arrived, and we became "chosen cats!"

Once in our new digs, we wondered...was it fur good?

My first portrait at chez Carol!

RESOLVED! We're staying! Being allowed to explore was a very good sign!

Thanks to Marys Kitty Korner for keeping us happy and healthy during our wait for our Furever Home!!!

This weekend we are going to join Athena & Marie's Caturday Art hop And Cat on My Head's Sunday Hop!  Happy weekend to all!

GOTCHA DAY: Our Narrow Escape from New York City

It's our Gotcha Day!

We are celebrating our 5th "Gotcha Day" with Cat on My Head's Sunday Blog our Fifth Year with Carol in Connecticut.  We almost didn't make it out of New York City though...

Our Narrow Escape from NYACC in New York

Our story: We were "Peaches & Tigger"in the old days & we had a narrow escape in NYC before moving to Connecticut. We were even on  "death row" for a while. Our previous owners surrendered us to a shelter in NYC when they moved to Puerto Rico. I guess they thought we'd be adopted right away since we had such beautiful calico colorings with gorgeous stripes.

But NO ONE came to get us and day after day went by. We were besides ourselves with grief and terror. Finally the shelter put out a notice: we were now on "death row" - a place for cats no one comes to adopt!  We were due to be put to sleep the next day!

"Death Row," Facebook & Loving Volunteers

The good part of the story starts now.  Hundreds of loving volunteers watch the "death row" item in Facebook. They share kitty stories, post loving words & make donations. We were lucky and captured the hearts of many. Here are some of the pleas posted by those who helped (you may need to enlarge(

After many of these posts, we were "pulled" (SAVED) by a wonderful foster organization in Staten Island. Paprika and I had caught sniffles in the shelter and this wonderful foster lady named Joann nursed us back to health and brought us to Connecticut to Marys Kitty Korner, a no-kill shelter.

Connecticut

Peaches trying to captivate visitors

For 6 more months we stayed in a large white house with 50 other cats while
awaiting forever homes.  I was in charge of captivating visitors. Of course I did antics daily in a sunny window where I could attract visitors and pick the best! MOL.

Then we met Carol. She had fallen in love with me the week before after seeing my picture on the internet.  And then she came to meet me and my sisfur Paprika (then named "Tigger") in that white house. Of course I could not leave without Paprika. So Carol took both of us home.

In Connecticut

Our explorations in the new home
Of course, being the lovable furries we are, Carol loves us both and we're awaiting our 5th Christmas here.  We have taken over the house, believe me!  We set the rules, although we still haven't come to an agreement on the quantity of tuna  being served here...

Happy Holidays
to all our blogger friends, kitties still in shelters & the angel kitties who graced our lives for all too short a time!

Peaches & Paprika at Marys Kitty Korner

This is the first picture I saw of Peaches - on the internet!
Who could NOT fall in love with this cat?

National Adopt-a-Shelter Month

This month we wanted to honor my kitties' previous shelter home, where I had the fortune to encounter Peaches & Paprika!

Marys Kitty Korner, is a sunny no-kill "home-like" shelter  for cats where our human met us.  We had previously been "rescued from a kill shelter in New York & we ended up in this new place, a big white house with lots of sunny windows & dedicated volunteers.  But many other cats with whom to compete!

PEACHES & PAPRIKA'S STORY:

So here's how it went:  My human fell in love with me, Peaches, on the internet!  You saw the picture (above) on "Petfinder." She was immediately smitten with me!  Immediately she said to herself:

 "I must have that cat!"

That's  me on TOP!
Mary's Kitty Korner - where I and Paprika were living
She then made inquiries about me, got directions and found I was living in a big white house in Granby, Connecticut with 50 other cats!

When my owner first laid eyes on me, I had the best spot in the cat house - a spot on a high window in the sun.  However, to tell you the truth, when she walked into the room I was flirting with another customer!

That's MY Cat!

Flirting and posing on the window for my admirers

My human was crushed, thinking another customer had scooped me up. She immediately announced, to the shocked onlookers:  "Hey that's MY cat!" - even though she'd never met me before!

Mary's Kitty Korner's manager, Miss Lisa, DID tell the other customer that Carol had "first dibs" on me, much to her great relief.
Sad Paprika--thinking she might get left behind!

And then there's Paprika...

Well here's the deal, I have this sisfur, Paprika, and let me tell you we're a Package deal - ain't going nowhere without my sisfur!  That was fine with the human.  She WANTED two cats!  So she met  shy Paprika  who was hanging out in another room.

Paprika is transfixed by "the feather"

The human, Carol, was not bothered by Paprika's shyness, (I've cautioned Paprika to look more "upbeat" like ME!) She started to play with Paprika & her eyes actually danced!

The Sunny Rooms at Marys Kitty Korner:

There were many neat rooms at Marys Kitty Korner that the human visited - where cats could play and sun themselves. Most have a grand ole time but who wants to live in a dorm?
Another sun and playroom at Marys Kitty Korner

We state our case

We decided to "state our case." After all, we did not wanther to get tempted by "other cats!"

For good measure, I tried one more "window maneuver" and Paprika tried to look particularly Beseeching!

Wouldn't YOU like a playful cat with such PURRsonality?

So...how about it?  Deal is sealed?
SNIFF! Pawleeeez..

Goodbye Marys Kitty Korner...
thank you for letting us stay here!

The human did not have to think about it long....she opted for BOTH of us....a wise decision!  White House:  Goodbye.
Check us out below in our "new" home...

Our New Digs

Here we've just arrived! The first few hours in our room we were given the "executive suite" - well actually, it was her bathroom, decorated with a plush blue rug, food & water, toys, a cool scratching post and lots of hiding places. Soon we were allowed to explore other rooms!

We love our home and being able to "prowl around" without bumping into 50 other cats!
We did wonder...
Will we be STAYING here?

YES!

YES, GIRLS, YES!
Thank you to Marys Kitty Korner for sheltering these delightful fur babies...you did a great job!

Celebrating Our "GOTCHA" DAY

OUR GOTCHA DAY

as of today, we are thrilled to celebrate our "GOTCHA" day--4 years of living with our human in Connecticut.

Our first night in Chez Carol

Before that we were "shelter kitties" But In December 2012 our human, needing furrrballs just like us in her life came to get us! We spent the first night in a luxuriously appointed room  with soft rugs & TUNA.  By morning we were raring to go explore the rest of the house. Here we are at 1-1/2 years old, on our first morning "jaunt."

Our Life in New York and "the shelter"

We weren't always so lucky.  We had two OTHER humans in New York City before during the first year of our life. We thought they loved us. We became loving & sweet-natured animals, very demonstrative.  THEN ONE DAY they put in cages & took to a cold depressing building, They said it was for our own good cuz they were moving to Puerto Rico.

At the Shelter

Maybe they thought since we had gorgeous ginger and black coloring and fabulous stripes we'd get adopted right away. But no one came to get us and day after day went by. My terrified sister Paprika caught the sniffles while we were waiting.  We were beside ourselves with grief and terror. Finally the shelter (called NYACC) decided we were "unadoptable" and put us on a list called "Death Row" - a list naming all cats to be killed the next morning.

How we were "saved"

Here starts the good part of our story. Hundreds of concerned humans watch this "Death Row List on Facebook. They share pictures of cats who win their hearts, they donate funds and they share our pictures. Here are some of the things loving & kind people posted which led to our rescue.

We were lucky and captured the hearts of many!  After a brief time (which didn't feel short to us) we were "pulled" from our near fate by a devoted rescue organization.

The White House in Connecticut

She nursed us back to health and brought us to live in a
big white house in Connecituct. There were about 40 other cats but we were allowed to roam free and hang out near sunny windows while waiting for our forever homes.  Then we met our human, Carol. She fell in love with me on the internet after seeing my picture.  "I must have that cat!" she thought...  So she found the white house in Granby, Connecticut and met ME.  And my sister, of course!

I let her pick me up the first day! I don't let just anyone do THAT!

And Home we went!

She took both of us home because I would not leave without my sister Paprika (then called Tigger).

Of course she loves both of us now.  We are awaiting our 4th Christmas here!  We haven't got her trained completely, she still doesn't feed us enough tuna,  for example, but she is coming along!   Happy Holidays from both of us to all our
blogger friends, those wonderful kind humans who shared our story, our foster home where we were nursed back to heath, the kitties still in shelters and the angel kitties who graced our lives for all too short a time!

Love, Peaches the cat
